Why I love Grace

While visiting infirmed and housebound members of his congregation, the late Houston Williams, Pastor of Grace Tabernacle Church of God in Christ located at 579 William Street in Buffalo, discovered that there was a great need for an African-American sponsored nursing home. he presented his findings to his congregation and received unanimous support for the establishment of such a facility.In 1979, the challenging road toward the establishment of the Grace Manor Nursing Home was undertaken as Pastor Williams began fundraising activities and simultaneously solicited donations from church members and members of the community at large.
Despite ill health, Pastor Williams persevered in the realization of this much needed facility and was rewarded with sizeable grants and donations from many sources. As Pastor Williams' health continued to deteriorate, major fundraising activities and the endorsement of area religious faith-based communities helped meet projected goals. His death in 1990 shadowed the success of the project, but on January 16, 1998, the day that Grace Manor first opened its doors, Pastor Williams' dream became a reality.

With the mission of offering culturally competent continuing care to our city’s communities of need, Grace Manor has developed a sensitive care model in which traditions are honored in order to enhance the caring environment. Grace Manor strives to respond to the richly varied values, beliefs and perspectives of its residents. Its urban location also allows the families of these residents easy and frequent access to their family members.
